These one-hour field trips include a walking tour of the Safety Village where students learn about street signs, traffic lights, road markings, and general traffic and pedestrian safety. Then, students will drive around the Village in our special pedal cars, while putting their new-found knowledge to use. Open to schools, daycares, preschools, and home school groups.

Field trips are suited for children ages 3 to 8, and cost is $3 per child. A $30 minimum charge applies for small groups. Contact KDSC to book your fieldtrip or year-end party!

Since 1970, over half a million young people over the age of 10 have taken the Canada Safety Council’s Babysitters’ Training Course. The Kelowna & District Safety Council is the only approved local provider of the course that is a member of the CSC.

As the most recognized course in Canada, this Babysitters’ Training Course is loaded with special features and will teach young people about:

• the rights/responsibilities of the employer/the child/the babysitter
• the developmental and behavioural characteristics of children
• basic child care, nutrition, injury prevention
• basic first aid procedures
• how to handle emergency situations and illness
• a variety of age appropriate games, songs, and toys
• caring for children with special needs.

The cost of the course is only $60 (no taxes) and includes a special KDSC Babysitter's Gear Bag as well as an illustrated reference book that includes group exercises and note taking pages. Other handouts and/or booklets may vary class to class.

All students who receive 80% or higher on the final exam will receive a graduation certificate from the Canada Safety Council and from KDSC. However, it is up to parents to know the laws in their province and to decide if their child (whatever his/her age, and whatever his/her final test score) is old enough or mature enough to babysit, and the circumstances under which he/she should be left alone to care for younger children.
