Fun and economical, scooters are rising in popularity. The Kelowna & District Safety Council offers personalized
training sessions for any scooterists who need help passing their ICBC licencing exams or who just want to improve
their skills.
Some training options to consider include:
Theory ($125) These 8 hour theory classes focus on urban riding tactics, defensive riding strategies, hazard detection, decision making skills, traffic safety issues, group riding, choosing a bike and riding gear, and many other important issues that will give students the knowledge they will need to stay safer on the roads. No matter how long you’ve been driving a car, this class is essential to learning how to behave safely and legally as a two-wheeled vehicle in a four-wheeled world! See Theory class schedules at right.
Parking Lot Training ($105 for 3 hours) A great option for those who need help preparing for their ICBC Skills Test for scooters, for those who want to fine tune their slow speed skills, or for those who want to work on emergency procedures.
In-Traffic Training ($125 for 3 hours) This three hour in-traffic session will introduce you to a variety of real-life traffic situations such as downtown areas, one way streets, hills, and residential riding. Two-wheeled traffic behaviour will be demonstrated and practiced, including lane dominance and lane changing. The content of this session will be individualized to the skills of the rider and to his/her goals. Become more confident in traffic and learn the skills necessary for a successful Class 6 ICBC Road Test.
Schedule See right side of this web page for a schedule of KDSC’s Theory classes. Parking Lot and In-Traffic Training sessions can be scheduled at your convenience Monday to Friday (morning, afternoon, or evening – dependant on daylight).
Gear Scooter riders may bring their own scooter or use KDSC’s scooter (450cc Yamaha majesty) for their training sessions. KDSC will provide free loans of helmet, jacket, and gloves if necessary. See the Gear Requirements page for an explanation of KDSC’s gear standards.
